National HRD Network.

A few business organizations in India have taken the lead in designing and implementing HRD through various mechanisms such as performance appraisal, Job rotation, counseling and feedback, potential development, training, organization development, career planning and job enrichment programs. The experiences of such organizations enrich the sharing these experiences and learning from each other, a few HRD professionals got together that the HRD movement should be strengthened by an institutional body that could provide a forum for interaction among HRD professionals. Thus the National HRD Network was formed on 2nd March, 1985.

The National HRD Network is an association of professionals, committed to promoting the HRD movement in the country. It is a non-profit organization dedicated to develop human resources through education, training, research, and experience sharing. National HRD Network is managed largely by HRD professionals in honorary capacity out of their interest in this field.

  • The Institution believes in co-existence and it always strives to bring together various professional bodies in the country to avoid duplication of work in the field, and provide a variety of activities to professionals.


  • An Institution developed by the Institutional building professors of eminent institutions such as XLRI, Jamshedpur, IIM, Ahmedabad, Ahmedabad Management Association, and efforts of prominent CEO’s and HRD professionals in the country.


  • The Network instituted the Best Network Award in 1992. The Bangalore, Pune Hyderabad and Delhi chapters have received this award so far.


  • Since 1989, the network initiated awards for organizations and individuals who have done outstanding work in the field of HRD.. Some of the earlier Award winning organizations were Crompton Greaves, L & T (ECC), SAIL, TELCO, Sundaram Fasteners, ITC, Marico, Wida, and EID Parry.


  • The HRD newsletter, started in 1985, has grown from its humble beginning. From April 200 it has been converted into a monthly edition while it was a quarterly from April1985 to March 2000. NHRD has entered into an MOU with ZCS for publishing this monthly magazine from April 2004.


  • The Network organizes national conferences once in two years. The unique feature of these conferences is the publication of the conference papers in a book form by a well known publishing house and making it available to participations during the conference. As on date, the Network has published twelve books since its inception in 1985.


  • In February, 1990, a permanent academic body has been formed: The Academy of Human Resources Development.


  • NHRD in collaboration with MDI Gurgaon has started an exclusive MBA Program in HR. First two batches are already undergoing the program.


  • Government of Andhra Pradesh has allotted a piece of land on 20 years lease for construction of National Headquarters at Hyderabad.


  • NHRD Has a liquid cash of more than 100 Lakhs as corpus.


  • It has 30 Chapters spread across the country with a membership of around 5,500.


  • Hyderabad Chapter is actively associated with ILO in eradicating Child Labour in the State of Andhra Pradesh and Delhi Chapter has a special initiative called “Beyond Business” for capacity building among the children in the lower strata of society.
